Choosing your certificate

A certificate that fits your plans

You have one website

For your blog, company website or online shop, a certificate for one address is often enough. GoGetSSL Domain SSL is the starting point.

Your website has several services

Your shop might use shop.example.com and your customer area kunden.example.com. A wildcard certificate covers these subdomains of the same domain together.

You run several projects

You want to secure example.com, example.net and another domain name together. A multi-domain certificate combines these addresses in one certificate.

Good to know: Our WebHosting already includes free Let's Encrypt SSL certificates. These are enough for many websites. If you need company validation or a particular certificate, we can help you choose the right addition.

Find the certificate for your website

SSL certificates with a twelve-month term require a certificate replacement during that period. Reissuing is free. Here is how it works

Keeping your connection protected

Book a year and replace the certificate before it expires

You book your SSL certificate for twelve months. The certificate itself has an earlier expiry date. Like an identity document, it needs a valid replacement in time. Reissuing is free within your paid period.

  1. You book twelve months

The annual price covers twelve months. The separately offered 90-day certificate is the exception. During the paid twelve months, required reissues do not incur another certificate charge.

  2. Request a new certificate before expiry

Request the reissue in good time. GoGetSSL currently specifies a maximum validity of 198 days per certificate. You may need to confirm your domain or company details again.

  3. Replace the certificate

You or your server administrator install the new certificate so your website can continue to offer a valid HTTPS connection. This does not start a new contract year or change the end date of your paid period.

As of September 2026. Always check the expiry date of the issued certificate. Certificate authority requirements may reduce the permitted validity further in future.

Guidance as you choose

From your order to an encrypted website connection

Enter your website

After ordering, open the setup in the Customer Menu and specify the website the certificate is for. Your server administrator can provide the required certificate signing request. If you get stuck, we can help you understand the next step.

Confirm your authorisation

Confirm that you are authorised to manage the address. Certificates with company validation also involve checks of your business details. Follow the instructions provided during setup.

Set up the certificate

Your certificate becomes available after successful validation. You or your server administrator install it on your website’s server. Then visit your website using https:// and check that the connection works without a certificate warning.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about SSL certificates

What does an SSL certificate do on my website?
When someone sends a message, signs in or places an order on your website, data travels between their browser and your server. A correctly installed SSL certificate lets you encrypt that connection. Your website can then be reached over HTTPS. You still need to protect and update your website content and software.
Is a free Let's Encrypt certificate enough?
For HTTPS encryption on many websites, yes. Let's Encrypt is already included in our WebHosting. A paid certificate may be useful if you also need company validation or your organisation requires a particular certificate.
Do I need DV, OV or EV?
For many blogs, shops and company websites, domain validation, or DV, is enough. You confirm that you are authorised to manage the address. Choose OV if you also need your company to be validated. EV provides extended company validation, for example when your organisation requires it. All three options encrypt the connection. The validation type does not determine a special highlight in the browser.
Isn't my SSL certificate valid for a full year?
You book your SSL certificate for twelve months. Each certificate file has a shorter validity: GoGetSSL currently specifies a maximum of 198 days. Since March 2026, shorter validity periods are also required for one-year products. Have your certificate reissued free of charge within your paid period and install it again on your server. Always check the actual expiry date of your SSL certificate.
Does a reissue cost extra or extend my contract?
Reissuing your GoGetSSL certificate within the paid period is free. It does not purchase an additional year. The newly issued certificate must be installed on your server. Domain or company validation may be required again. To use your SSL certificate beyond the paid period, you need a paid renewal.
Will my SSL certificate renew automatically for another year?
You pay for your SSL certificate in advance. You can check and change the setting for automatic renewal from your account balance in the Customer Menu. When this feature is enabled, the term may be renewed for a charge if your balance is sufficient. This contract renewal is separate from a free certificate reissue during the period you have already paid for.
Which addresses does a wildcard certificate cover?
A wildcard such as *.example.com covers addresses such as shop.example.com and mail.example.com. It does not cover shop.eu.example.com or a different base domain. The offered GoGetSSL Wildcard SSL also includes the base domain. For multiple wildcards, a separate product includes one base name and two wildcard SAN entries.
How many domains do the SAN products include?
GoGetSSL Multi-Domain SSL, BusinessTrust SAN and BusinessTrust EV SAN each include three names: one base name and two additional SAN entries. Public IP SAN includes two entries in total. The scope on the relevant product card applies. Extra names are not included in the displayed price.
Can I secure an IP address?
Yes, using GoGetSSL Public IP SAN for public IP addresses. The offered SSL certificate includes two entries and can also contain domain names. Private IP addresses and internal names are not eligible. The certificate authority must verify your authority to use the specified addresses.
What do I need to prepare for setup?
First decide which names the certificate should cover. Then generate the private key and the matching certificate signing request (CSR) on your server or with your server administrator. OV and EV also require company details. Do not share the private key publicly or send it in unencrypted email.
Does hostworld.de install the certificate automatically?
You or your server administrator install the certificate on your server, including after a reissue. Automatic installation is not part of this certificate product. If you need help with a step, open a ticket in the Customer Menu or email support@hostworld.de. Tell us your website address and where you are getting stuck.
What is different about 90-day Trial SSL?
This SSL certificate is valid for 90 days and is paid. Choose it for short-term use. The twelve-month term information applies to the other products.
