Included with every Root Server

100 GB of separate backup space

Cloud Storage provides separate storage space for your backup copies. Connect your own backup software to this storage. In your software, choose which files to back up and how often.

Cloud Storage appears as a separate product in your customer area and can be expanded when needed. The included capacity stays free while your Root Server contract is active. Automatic backups are not included.

Add more Cloud Storage whenever you need it: each additional 20 GB costs €0.20 per month. Upgrades to this separate Cloud Storage are billed monthly. CPU, RAM and Local Block Storage are billed together with your Root Server.

Administer it yourself

Operating system, software, configuration: all your decision

On your virtual server, you decide everything yourself: operating system, software and configuration down to the kernel modules.

That also means: updates, hardening and backups are in your hands. If you want us to take care of that, a Managed Server is the better choice.

Hardware platform

The hardware under your server: AMD EPYC and NVMe in RAID 6

Our virtual servers run on AMD EPYC host systems with DDR5 ECC RAM and enterprise NVMe SSDs in RAID 6, operated in German data centers. You get your own virtual machine with full root access. CPU and RAM can be expanded when needed.

Customer experiences

What customers say about us

4.9 out of 525 reviews96 % would recommend

Super schnelle Verbindungen!!!

„Der von mir bei Hostworld angemietete VPS-Server ist mit seiner Leistung extrem schnell, Das merkt man sofort bei jedem Download. Der Support ist ebenso schnell. Selbst zu abendlichen Zeiten wurde mir geholfen. Preislich habe ich nichts vergleichbares gefunden.“

A HOSTtest.de review from

Virtueller Server Small - Erste Erfahrungen

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Root Servers

How do Root Servers differ from VPS?
A Root Server makes your booked CPU performance continuously available. A VPS is the lower-priced option with shared CPU performance. Both are virtual servers with full root access, their own operating system, snapshots and NVMe storage.
Do I get an entire physical server?
You receive your own virtual machine on our server platform. You manage the operating system and applications yourself. A Root Server is not an entire physical server.
What is KVM virtualization?
KVM gives you a virtual machine with its own operating system. You have root access and manage applications, updates and settings yourself. The vCPUs are virtual processor cores on a shared host system.
Can I add Plesk?
Yes. Three editions can be selected directly in the ordering process: Web Admin (10 domains, WP Toolkit SE), Web Pro (30 domains, WP Toolkit, account management) or Web Host (unlimited domains, reseller management).
Which distributions can I install?
6 Linux distributions are preconfigured (AlmaLinux, Arch Linux, Debian, OpenSUSE, RockyLinux, Ubuntu Server). In addition, FreeBSD as an image and DVD installers for special-purpose systems, including Windows Server 2022/2025 (180-day trial license). See the “Distributions” section further down.
How do custom ISOs work?
You upload your own images (iso, qcow, qcow2, raw) via browser or cURL and install them like a preconfigured distribution.
Are snapshots the same as backups?
No. Snapshots are point-in-time copies on the same storage: ideal for a quick rollback before risky changes, but no protection against hardware defects. For external backups, you can add Cloud Backup or use your own backup solution. Cloud Backup is installed inside the operating system.
What does the connection look like?
The host system has a 2× 10 Gbit/s uplink. Your Root Server has a 1 Gbit/s connection on Root Server Solo and 2.5 Gbit/s on Root Server Plus and all larger plans.
How is the DDoS protection set up?
Protection is permanently active and filters suspicious traffic at the network edge before it reaches your server.
What happens if the node's hardware fails?
We work to restore server operation. Keep a separate backup of important data outside your Root Server. Connect the included Cloud Storage to your own backup software.
Which payment methods are available?
SEPA direct debit, credit card (incl. Apple Pay / Google Pay), PayPal and bank transfer.
Can I upgrade or downgrade plans later?
You can move to a suitable larger Root Server in the customer portal. This also applies to our previous VPS plans, which belong to the Root Server line. Existing disks cannot be shrunk. Switching to the new VPS line is not available.
Which Root Server suits my project?
Solo suits smaller websites and services. Plus and Pro provide more room for shops, databases and containers. Max and Ultra suit applications with higher memory and storage requirements. Choose according to your software requirements.
How do contract terms and payments work?
Choose one, twelve or 24 months and pay for the full selected period in advance. Save 10% with twelve months or 15% with 24 months compared with the monthly plan. The crossed-out price shows the monthly-term price. Additional CPU cores, RAM and Local Block Storage are billed for the same period with the same discount.
How do I use the free Cloud Storage?
Every Root Server includes a separate account with 100 GB Cloud Storage. Configure backups using your own software. You can purchase additional capacity in your customer area. The included capacity remains free while your Root Server contract is active. Cloud Backup is a separate solution that includes backup software.
