You install and manage n8n on your VPS. The Community Edition is available under the Sustainable Use License. n8n explains the permitted uses and available features in its licensing information.

    Before an update or a risky change, capture the state of the server with a snapshot. If something goes wrong, you go back to it.

Frequently asked questions about n8n hosting

How do I install n8n on my VPS?
n8n documents installation with Docker Compose. You install the application yourself and configure your domain and HTTPS. Our support team can help with managing your VPS.
Is VPS Plus enough for my workflows?
With 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM, VPS Plus provides room to get started. The data you process and the number of tasks running at once determine your needs. For continuously committed CPU capacity, choose a Root Server from the outset. Plan changes between VPS and Root Server are not available.
Which n8n license do I need?
The self-hosted Community Edition uses the Sustainable Use License. Some features and uses require an additional license. Check your intended use against n8n’s current licensing information.
Can I transfer my workflows from n8n Cloud?
You can export workflows as JSON and import them on your server. Credential secrets are not transferred. Set up connections to your applications again and test the workflows before switching over.
Do you handle n8n updates?
You manage n8n on your VPS yourself, including updates, configuration and backups. Read n8n’s release notes and back up your data before updating.
How do I back up my n8n installation?
Back up the database, configuration and the key used to encrypt your credentials. The included 100 GB Cloud Storage can serve as a destination for backups you configure yourself. A snapshot resides on the same storage as your server and does not replace a separate backup.
What matters when handling many incoming requests?
VPS Plus has a 2.5 Gbit/s connection. The number of requests your installation can process also depends on CPU, RAM, the database and connected services. Test your workflows under the expected load.
