What is a domain transfer?
In a domain transfer, your existing domain moves from your previous provider to hostworld.de. The domain itself stays the same, only its management is with us afterwards. You keep your name, but get our DNS management, redundant name servers and fair, constant prices.
The transfer is authorized with the auth code, which you request from your current provider. Good to know: with the transfer, the name servers switch to us. You then set up your DNS records in your Customer Menu or enter your own name servers.
How the transfer works
A successful transfer in five steps

Prepare the domain
Check whether the domain is ready to move (for some extensions e.g. at least 60 days old and not locked) and update the contact details in the Whois if necessary.

Request the auth code
Request the auth code from your current registrar (also called EPP or transfer code).

Start the transfer
Enter the domain and auth code with us. We initiate the transfer for you.

Confirm the transfer
For some extensions (e.g. .com, .org, .net) you confirm the transfer by email. For .de and many others the transfer is active immediately, for generic extensions it can take a few days.

Check the DNS records
After the transfer, the name servers run on our side. To keep your website and email reachable, create your DNS records in your Customer Menu, or enter your own name servers.
Requirements
What must be in place before the transfer
Requirements differ slightly depending on the extension. In most cases:
- For generic extensions (e.g. .com, .net, .org), the domain has been with the current registrar for at least 60 days (ICANN rule). For .de this period does not apply.
- The domain status is not “Pending Delete” or “Redemption Period”.
- The auth code (EPP/transfer code) is available.
- If the extension allows Whois privacy and it is active, it should be temporarily disabled so that confirmation emails arrive.
- The admin-c email address in the Whois is current and reachable.

Want to move your domain away from us to another provider? You generate the auth code yourself in the Customer Menu at any time, without asking support.
Transfer lock
Protects your domain against an unwanted transfer to another provider. You switch the lock on and off yourself in the Customer Menu, provided the registry of the extension supports it.
Whois privacy on request
Protection of your personal data in the public Whois lookup, available for extensions whose registry allows it. At no extra charge.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about domain transfers
How long does a domain transfer take?
.de transfers are usually completed within a few minutes. For .com/.net/.org it takes 1 to 7 business days depending on the TLD registry. We notify you at every status change.
What is the auth code?
The auth code (also EPP or transfer code) is a password that identifies the domain owner to the registry. You request it from your current registrar and enter it with us to authorize the transfer.
What happens to my DNS records during the transfer?
With the transfer, your domain's name servers switch to hostworld.de. Existing DNS records are not carried over automatically. To keep your website and email reachable without interruption, create your records in your Customer Menu after the transfer, or enter your own name servers.
Are email and web forwards transferred as well?
No. Like the DNS records, forwards belong to the management of the domain and do not move with the transfer. You create them again in your Customer Menu after the transfer, for email addresses and for web addresses, without a hosting package and at no extra charge.
Can I lock my domain against another transfer after moving?
Yes. In the Customer Menu you switch the transfer lock on and off yourself, provided the registry of the extension supports it. While it is active, the registry rejects transfer requests.
What does the transfer cost?
The transfer costs the transfer price of the respective extension (see above). There is no additional, separate transfer fee.
What happens if the transfer fails?
If a transfer fails, for example because of a wrong auth code or an active transfer lock, your domain stays unchanged with the previous registrar. No costs arise, and you can have the transfer initiated again via our support.
Can I also transfer from a registrar abroad?
Yes. As long as you have the auth code and the domain is not locked, it does not matter in which country your previous registrar is located.
